In this feature, we take you uptown along 6th Ave. in Manhattan to share our top five favorite Halal carts! Be sure to visit them in the near future and let us know which one you enjoyed by commenting below.
Address: NE Corner 6th Ave. & W. 4th Street, New York, NY 10012
Sammay’s Halal has been my go to spot if I’m in downtown NYC. This cart is conveniently located near Washington Park and the NYU campus. I order the mixed lamb and chicken over their tasty basmati rice and salad drizzled with white, green and BBQ sauce.
Address: 110 W. 45th St., New York, NY 10036
Kwik Meals is unlike any other Halal food cart because they offer fresh ingredients! This gourmet cart offers a clean platter with white rice, side of yogurt and green chutney upon request. I personally get the Chicken and Lamb combination with all of the sauces. The lamb and chicken are tender and moist while the two pieces of complimentary falafel are dry and unappetizing. This spot is a bit pricier compared to the other Halal carts, but the quality speaks for itself, expect to pay around $10 for a combo platter.
Address: 46th St. and 6th Ave., New York, NY 10036
Biryani Cart is known for their biryani but I primarily visit this cart for its kati rolls. My favorite is the Pune Chicken Kati Roll, which comes seasoned with spices and topped with white and sweet chili sauce. Can’t beat this deal, only two for $6!
Address: 49th St. and 6th Ave., New York, NY 10019
Like the other carts, Adel’s is unique in their rice offering where you choose between yellow or spicy rice. I usually get the mixed platter, Chicken and Lamb (common theme) with spicy rice as I love to kick up the fire! Top it off with white sauce, a bit of the spicy red sauce and I counter that with BBQ sauce. Of course if you are not up for eating rice, simply ask for the combination as a sandwich in a pita.
Address: W. 53rd St. and 6th Ave., New York, NY 10019
The Halal Guys are personal friends and great partners. I have been going to this legendary spot for over a decade. Many people flock to this super popular spot from all over the world! The Halal Guys have many nicknames such as “Gyro Guys”, “Chicken and Rice”, “The Halal”, “Platters” and many more! I get the combination platter, chicken and lamb over rice, which also comes with a side of pita and lettuce. You can find the sauces off to the side, I top my platter with extra white sauce, a few drops of hot sauce (take this as a warning from an Indian) and some BBQ sauce to counter the hot sauce! The Halal Guys have reached many milestones throughout the years, more recently the opening of their first brick and mortar store and a teaser about plans to franchise their successful operation!
In this episode, Sameer takes a ride to Paterson, NJ which is home to many Halal restaurants with a strong population of ethnic Muslims, primarily from the Middle East.
One of Sameer’s favorite cuisines is from the beautiful country of Turkey. Sameer was introduced to Oz Karadeniz by his close friend, Salim Patel who appears in this video to give his testimonial. Once you walk into this restaurant, a feeling of coziness overcomes you! This family owned and operated “GEM” grills up authentic Turkish Kabobs and cooks some amazing specialty dishes from the homeland! This place is family-friendly and the owners and staff are very pleasant! We hope you visit them soon and make sure you tell them that SAMEER SENT YA!

When it comes to halal food in Brooklyn, a visit to Yemen Cafe is a must. This exotic middle eastern restaurant is located along the iconic Atlantic Avenue and has been serving authentic Yemeni cuisine since 1986. There is a variety of home-style dishes that would satisfy your palette, however, my all time favorite is the Haneez (slow-roasted lamb served with rice and potatoes).

Sameer visited his old friends at The Halal Guys to discuss the much anticipated opening of their first restaurant. Sameer has been part of The Halal Guys family for over 15 years and is truly excited to see them evolve into a brick and mortar establishment. Find out the meaty details right here!
