After all the backlash last Thanksgiving from Pamela Geller and her minions, it seems that Butterball has pulled the plug on American-Muslim consumers and is no longer selling halal turkeys. Here’s a conversation I recently had with Butterball’s customer support.
Chat session with Butterball:
Thank you for choosing Butterball. A representative will be with you shortly.
You are now chatting with ‘Martha’
Martha: Happy Thanksgiving from Butterball! How may I help you today?
Me: Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones Martha
Martha: Thank you so much! You, too!
Me: My name is Sameer, I run a webshow called “Sameer’s Eats” which highlights top Halal Food around the country
Martha: Interesting….go on….
Me: I have heard rumors that your turkeys are “Halal”
Martha: At this time, Butterball branded products are not certified halal. This applies to both domestic and international products.
Martha: Sorry! We are not Halal
Me: Its okay I heard rumors last year that it was the case
Me: I appreciate your time and enjoy your holiday
Martha: Thank you for chatting. Have a great Thanksgiving!
An email passed on to me by a friend:
